Christmas at Kmart

Christmas retail is in full force now everywhere as you would expect, stores and malls have definitely decked their halls (see what I did there?!). Normally I’m immersed in Christmas festivities, overflowing with Christmas spirit, with Christmas music playing in the house all day long. But this year, the Christmas spirit hasn’t quite hit me yet. I’m putting it down to the fact I have a lot going on at the moment, and my mind is full of other stuff.

Unfortunately for my overfilled mind, Amelia is freaken loving Christmas this year. She has never been more excited about Santa coming, giving presents to people, singing Christmas songs and reading Christmas books. So in an attempt to get into my Christmas mood, we took the girls to see Santa yesterday and to pick up a Christmas tree. Where else would I go, but good old Kmart, where we picked up a 6ft Christmas tree for only $13! And if that’s not reason enough for you to get to Kmart quick-smart, I’ve put together this post the other awesome Christmas fun stuff I found that I will definitely be going back to stock up on before Christmas Day.

This post is a two-part series, so keep an eye out for Part Two – there are just way too many cool things for one post! In the meantime, I’d love to see what Christmas goodies you have picked up from Kmart. Head over to Facebook or Instagram and share your pictures with me. Just a little heads up, there might just be a giveaway coming with Part Two… From the very store these posts are all about!

Right – time for my Christmas favourites from Kmart:

Fathers Day Shopping Guide

Fathers Day is fast approaching in New Zealand, it falls on the first Sunday of September each year. It’s always been a double celebration because my Dad’s Birthday is 1st September so normally they are just days apart. As a kid, I vividly remember buying a lot of the same things for my Dad each year. Socks, funny t-shirt, mugs that say #1 Dad or Best Dad in the World. The “real present” would be what we gave him for his birthday.

In our house, I’ll often try to put together a homemade gift with the kids, or at the very least a homemade card (normally the kids painted hand prints smudged all over the paper). Charlene from Teacher by Trade, Mother by Nature actually has collected some great ideas for making homemade Fathers Day gifts. This year though, I’m feeling a little guilty as I happen to be heading off to Fiji for five days (alone – eek!) and it falls over Fathers Day. So I’m getting a store-bought gift to soften him up a little. I’ve put together a list of my favourite shops for finding the ultimate Dad gift that isn’t a pair of socks, funny t-shirt, or a mug. Lisa’s Story – How to be authentic

My lovely friend Lisa is truly one of a kind. She and her partner Mike have created an online programme for everyday folk called Just Do You. It’s about learning to be your true authentic self and learning to live a life you love. Today she shared this beautiful story on Facebook – this is Lisa’s authentic self. I’m so proud of her for being incredibly open and 100% completely vulnerable. Please take some time to check out the awesome work Lisa and Mike are doing with EKOYou, they are a wealth of knowledge and truly care about nothing more than supporting people through the moments of life.

My Top 5 Relaxation Techniques

When I was a child, my mum used to lie on her bed and listen to calming sounds.  Often waves at sea, trickling water, or sounds from the forest.  Or a lovely calm lady saying “breathe in….. breathe out….”  I remember trying to lie still next to her while she was listening to her relaxation tapes (before CD’s were invented), attempting to do the same.  Unfortunately at seven years old these sounds weren’t going to calm my active brain! Saturday Morning Inspiration

There are many memorable messages spoken by the amazing Dalai Lama, but I came across this one last night and thought it was so incredibly accurate and true.  Read it.  Think about it.  Act on it.  If there is one area that Dalai Lama identifies in this message that you could change today what would it be?   Continue reading “Saturday Morning Inspiration”

Sunday Inspiration – Just Start

I’ve been procrastinating a lot lately. I’ve had a bunch of ideas hanging in the back of my mind, but self-doubt has been getting the better of me. What if, what if, what if. Then yesterday when telling my friend about my idea, she gave me some advice. Just start. Continue reading “Sunday Inspiration – Just Start”
